This morning, Philadelphia Business Journal reported that Collegeville would soon be welcoming a ‘Movie Tavern’ to Providence Town Center (location of the current Wegmans). This is great news for movie-goers in our area who might want something other than the standard auditorium-seating, popcorn-and-soda movie express. This “drink and dine” theatre will give patrons first-run movies and a complete in-house dining experience. According to the Texas-based company’s website, the “Movie Tavern” concept includes: food items ordered in the lobby and delivered to your seat; a menu of appetizers, burgers, hand-tossed pizzas, desserts and the usual popcorn, candy and soda; beer, wine and margaritas will be served from the lobby bar; tables in front of all theatre seats. I went to a place like this once a long time ago. It did not work for me because wait staff were still walking around delivering food DURING the movie (blocking my view) and the general experience is one of talking and socializing with a movie in the background. If you want dinner and a movie, go to dinner then the movie theatre.
Movie Tavern success!
I attended the new tavern for the midnight Harry Potter 7.2 premiere. It was everything a movie-going experience should be…but better. Spoiled with my own personal armchair, good food, drinks and excellent (not to mention non-disruptive )service, I plan to make going to this movie tavern a habit.

first off, shame on you jennifer for comparing a place “like” a movie tavern to an actual movie tavern. Movie taverns are built different than regular movie theaters. So then you dont have the servers getting in the way during the movie. My first experience with Movie tavern was in Aurora, CO. I havent been to the one in PA yet. But it is now on my to do list now that I know it is there. For the record, I have been to the other places that are “like” (and I put like in quotes because they arent really alike at all) movie tavern and they arent as good at all. Movie Taverns in general are A+ and all others that I’ve been to get a C at best.
We had a fabulous time and can’t wait to go back! In fact, my husband and I are takign our family (sons, grandchildren, daughters-in-law) 11 of us, tomorrow night. We’ve been telling everyone we know about it. LOVE IT!
Love Love Love the Movie Tavern. Been there a couple times, evening, afternoon matinees, big releases and smaller movies and have not had one complaint yet! The waitstaff is very careful NOT to get in your way. The movie was not in the “background” People were quietly eating and enjoying their movie without chatting. It is my new favorite place to see a movie, not to mention it not being packed with noisy teenagers because you have to be with a parent to get in or 18 due to alcohol being served! I will try to go to the movie tavern now all the time even though I live 45 minutes away! GREAT experience.
i love this place so much, the employees are the best especially the two food runners Katie and Taylor!(:
