  • Went to Hog Island for the first time on 9/9/2011. Easily the best cheesesteak I’ve had since moving to the Philadelphia area in 2007. My SO said the same thing and she’s from Philadelphia. The quality of the steak is fantastic — hence, paying a premium for it. We also had mozzarella cheese sticks to start off with. Fairly standard, but I even felt the quality was better than normal.

I totally recommend this place. Go.

  • The BEST cheesesteak I have ever had!

  • Upon hearing of the opening of Hog Island Steaks, I was initially intrigued and considered ordering from them. However, I just got done looking at their website and I’m disappointed and won’t be ordering.

I think that they are too expensive for a sandwich shop. When compared to other shops in the area, Hog Island is $1 or $2 more, for comparable items. Heck, even the pizza toppings are more expensive. One dollar per pizza topping?

Unless they adjust to the local prices, I don’t see Hog Island staying around for the long run.

    • What a shame you are not ordering from there. The food is great, and the expense is worth it. Fresh carved and cooked steak, is great. Also, they put enough meats in their sandwiches, twice as much as any one else does around here. A hoggie has about 1 lb of meat in it. For the price of the meats, it is worth it. My advice is to give it a try, I do not think you will be disappointed!
