The first-ever Phoenixville Green Festival will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today, August 20, in the 100 to 200 block of Bridge Street. To educate citizens of the greater Phoenixville area on sustainability, various green vendors and environmental organizations will have displays setup along the sidewalk.
The numerous areas of sustainability which will be covered by the vendors/organizations include residential composting, energy efficiency, solar energy, geothermal heating and cooling, green cleaning, organic/vegetarian foods, and climate change.
Big Green Limousine, a local band, will be playing unplugged (keeping with our green theme by using no electricity) at the corner of Main and Bridge Streets. As part of the festival, restaurants in downtown Phoenixville will be featuring local, organic, and/or vegetarian specials for the evening, including Black Lab Bistro, Columbia Bar & Grille, Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant, Daddy Mim’s, and others.
In addition, there will be a free screening at 8:30 p.m. of The Greening of Southie in the newly-renovated third floor room of the Colonial Theatre (seating will be first-come, first-served).
This documentary tells the story of the construction of the first green (LEED certified) multi-family residential building in Boston. The Colonial thanks Phoenixville Federal Bank & Trust for being the sponsor of the event.
